Driving to Camp

The Ponkapoag site in the Blue Hills Reservation is a fragile eco-system and home to many endangered and threatened species. There are also many hikers, equestrians, and children. Please help us to keep camp a low traffic area.

From Downtown Boston:

  1. Route 93 South (be sure to stay to the right at the Braintree split)
  2. Exit 3- Ponkapoag Trail / Houghton’s Pond
  3. Left at the top of the ramp and over the highway to the Ponkapoag Trail gate
  4. Follow directions below for Ponkapoag Trail Gate (Below)

From 128 and the Mass Turnpike:

  1. Take Route 128/95 South past Dedham.
  2. Exit 12- 93 North
  3. Exit 3- Ponkapoag Trail / Houghton's Pond.
  4. Right at the top of the ramp to the Ponkapoag Trail gate
  5. Follow directions below for Ponkapoag Trail Gate (Below)

From Hyde Park / Dorchester / Milton:

  1. Route 138 South (Blue Hill Ave.) past the Trailside Museum to the big intersection with Dunkin Donuts and a traffic light
  2. At the light, turn left into the Blue Hills Reservation.
  3. Follow road to the stop sign and turn right onto Blue Hill River Road.
  4. Continue straight past Houghton’s Pond and cross over the highway to the Ponkapoag Trail gate
  5. Follow directions below for Ponkapoag Trail Gate (Below)

From Ponkapoag Trail Gate:

  1. Open gate by pulling the pin and drive through (please close the gate)
  2. Drive almost a mile down the dirt road to the fork
  3. Parking will be in the area to your left
  4. The Main Camp area is to your right (please do not drive here)
  5. All visitors must check in at the lodge which is the large brown building with a porch

Please keep within the 10 mile per hour speed limit and be prepared to yield to hikers and horses.
