Our staff is carefully selected on the basis of their experience, education, training, leadership ability and interpersonal skills. Each staff member participates in a week long pre-camp training period in preparation for the arrival of campers
Cabin counselors are 18 years of age or older, and are supported by CIT’s and assistant counselors who are 16 and 17. Many of our staff members have grown up at North Woods and Pleasant Valley. International staff add a unique flavor and experience for everyone at camp
While recollections of camp activities and the surroundings never fade, what every child will remember most is the people. Memories of the cabin mate who became a lasting friend or the counselor who took the time to care, talk through a problem or share a laugh will continue for a lifetime.

Graeme Donald is the Director of North Woods YMCA Camp for Boys. He has been an incredible staff member here for a number of years and did an amazing job as the Assistant Director during the summers of 07’ and 08’. Graeme brings with him not only his experience as a Northwoodsman, but a commitment to give back to camp everything he got from it. Graeme believes that every camper and staff member deserves the chance to learn, grow and take on responsibilities while making friends, memories and a personal foundation that will last a life time. Graeme is currently working on his teaching degree at Edinburgh University back in Scotland after having completed his HNC in Early Education last year.

Hey Northwoodsmen! I have been coming to camp for 11 years and each year camp just seems to get better and better. Camp is truly my second home. As for the offseason: this past year I graduated from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and I currently work for Nature's Classroom (and environmental education school) in the Berkshires. I hope all of you are enjoying the year and cannot wait to come back to camp!
